Helping our Four Legged Friends
WANTED SCRAP FABRIC
HELP TRISHA PUT CUSHIONS UNDER ALL THESE CATS!
She is gathering scraps of fabric to make stuffing for beds for cats at the CARLETON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER
So save your sewing scraps and bring them to Trish at any guild meeting......The CATS thank you!
And now.....members can make their own animal bed. Bonnie Sproull made up some pillows, one for each member, to take and pin next to their sewing machine so that they can stuff their own pillow bed. Most of these were distributed at the Sept. 2011 meeting but there are some extra for those who were not at the meeting but wish to make their own pillow. Once these are filled and stitched closed, please bring your completed pillow to the monthly meeting and give them to Trisha who will then deliver them to Debec and Florenceville. Thanks so much for such a great group effort.

Update on 2011 Animal Shelter Guild Project
At are September meeting Bonnie Sproull suggested that the Guild include as many members as possible in the production of animal beds for the local shelters. She prepared 50+ pillow cases and distributed them to each volunteer member to fill with scraps and then members were to bring them to any meeting once they had filled and closed them. Trisha Robinson would then deliver them to the shelters. To date (November, 2011) 50 beds have been donated to the Debec Shelter. Way to go, Ladies! We will continue to make these as there is a never ending need at the shelters with a constant collection of animals, especially cats, at both the Debec and DunRoamin shelter in Florenceville.
Thanks again to everyone for your help. The animals very much apprciate soft pillows to sleep on.

2012 Progress Update on Our Beds for Needy Pets!
In the months of October and November quilters have donated 161 beds. Seventy were donated to DunRoamin and 91 went to the Debec Animal Shelter. This means that we have donated over 200 beds to both locations since this program began. Way to go, Ladies......and yes, we need to keep making these beds. DunRoamin is planning to sell some of the beds for a nominal amount in order to support medical fees for rescued animals.
For those who need to know the sewing specifications in order to make the beds please follow the information below:
For those who need to know the sewing specifications in order to make the beds please follow the information below:
- Size - is roughly 20" X 14" but they can be slightly larger or smaller and not only a rectangular shape.
- If you cut a pillow case in half, this will give you the approximate size and you can get two beds out of one pillow case. You can use old sheets , shirts, fleece or cotton to make the shell. Kittens love fleece shells.
- They can be stuffed with your cotton scraps from your various projects, pieces of batting (please cut these remnants into smaller pieces), fleece scraps, old socks cut up, etc. Jean material is a bit bulky and coarse for the beds.
- Don't overstuff. Beds need to be needable by the animals.
- And......please, please, be careful not to get pins and needles stuffed in with your scraps. Also paper, most notably fusing backing paper should not be in the beds.
